Tirex Completes Development of RuCrTherm Advanced, Proprietary Rubber-thermoplastic Composites

MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 20, 1999--The Tirex Corporation (OTC BULLETIN BOARD - ``TXMC'') announced today that it has completed the development of its initial line of eight RuCrTherm(TM) proprietary composite materials. These materials consist of different combinations of a high percentage of Rutex(TM) (recycled crumb rubber produced by Tirex's patented TCS-1 Plant) and various polymers. RuCrTherm(TM) was initially developed for Tirex by M.D. Technologies of Ile d'Orleans, Quebec, for use in the compression molding and thermoplastic extrusion industries.

Based on the results of extensive tests conducted at Tirex's Montreal facility, the use of RuCrTherm(TM), instead of the traditional sulfur or urethane, should make the production of high value-added rubber products (containing high proportions of
recycled rubber) significantly faster, more flexible, and more cost-effective. Tirex's CEO, Terence C. Bryne stated that. ``Our
test results indicate that RuCrTherm(TM) based products can be compression molded in seconds instead of the minutes required to mold products using more traditional materials. According to Mr. Byrne, ''This will dramatically reduce manufacturing costs while, at the same time, imparting a high degree of product integrity, tear strength, flexibility, and stress stability to rubber-content products. The physical and chemical properties of RuCrTherm(TM) can be customized to meet the
specific requirements of the customer. Moreover, RuCrTherm(TM) composite materials will be fully recyclable so that products made out of these materials can, in turn, be recycled in an environmentally sound manner into new products.``

Tirex expects that additional high-growth potential applications for RuCrTherm(TM) will include extrusion and materials compounding, custom designed rubber composite mix applications, and other higher engineered applications in various industries including the automotive sector. Tirex, intends to begin using RuCrTherm(TM) in its own current molded rubber mat products. While it also intends to being marketing RuCrTherm(TM) to other potential users, it has not yet done so and is
therefore unable, at this time, to state with certainty the market requirements or acceptance of these new materials.
