FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TIREX TO GO TO TWO TEN-HOUR SHIFTS PER DAY MONTREAL, CANADA, March 29, 1999 The Tirex Corporation (OTC BULLETIN BOARD "TXMC") announced today that, based on the better than anticipated success of the initial ten hour per day operation of its first fully integrated cryogenic scrap tire recycling system ("TCS-1" plant), it is accelerating the set-up from one, to two, daily ten-hour continuous shifts. Terence C. Byrne, Tirexs Chief Executive Officer, announced that the increase to a twenty-hour operating day, which was previously scheduled to begin during the third week in April, would be initiated today. During the past two weeks, Tirex has hired and trained a staff of fifteen to run the TCS-1 on a two 10-hour shift per day basis. Mr. Byrne once again affirmed, that these initial operations, represented a momentous milestone for Tirex, signifying the end of the primary development and the beginning of commercial exploitation of our TCS-1 Plant. The TCS-1 Plant is a patented "turn-key", automated, cryogenic scrap tire recycling system designed and manufactured by Tirex, which breaks down used tires into cleanly separated and re-saleable rubber crumb, steel wire and fiber. Tirex also manufactures finished products molded of our recycled rubber. Based on currently anticipated requirements, Tirex expects to use at least 400,000 pounds of TCS-1 recycled rubber per month in its own product manufacturing business. Mr. Byrne said that Tirex is confident that the vertical integration of its operations should provide significant competitive advantages in the market for molded rubber products, especially since "& results from earlier testing have already established that the rubber crumb produced by the TCS-1 Plant is the cleanest ground rubber we have seen being offered in the market today." Although Tirex will continue to own and operate one or more TCS-1 Plants, it has also taken orders to sell and lease fourteen plants. According to Mr. Byrne, the achievement of two continuous 10-hour running shifts per day will increase Tirexs ability to obtain the performance data needed to confirm that this model of the TCS-1 Plant is ready to be duplicated in commercial production. Based upon received orders for TCS-1 Plants, Tirex has recorded a backlog of $41,750,000 US on a pre-operational basis. Mr. Byrne stated that, "From this point on, the TCS-1 Plant, in operation, will be available for inspection by present and potential customers. We expect that this will greatly increase our ability to sell and lease TCS-1 Plants and will give our present customers the impetus to take all necessary steps to complete their purchases. Although Tirexs present backlog may be used as a guideline in determining the value of orders received, it is subject to change by reason of several factors including possible cancellation of orders, change in the terms of the contacts, and other factors beyond Tirexs control and should not be relied upon as being necessarily indicative of the revenues or profits which Tirex might ultimately realize from such orders. The ultimate consummation of a sale pursuant to any order included in the backlog will be entirely dependent upon the TCS-1 Plants continuing to meet all performance expectations and each customers obtaining lease or other financing as well as all required permits and licenses. |
