TIREX ENTERS INTO CONTRACT TO SELL TIRE RECYCLING SYSTEM TO
WELL EXPRESS INTERNATIONAL LTD. OF HONG KONG

MONTREAL, CANADA, December 22, 2000 - The Tirex Corporation (OTCBB-TXMC) announced today the signing of the first purchase and sale agreement in respect of a TCS-1, the Company's patented system for tire recycling. The order was signed by Well Express International Ltd. an import / export company of Hong Kong, with whom Tirex signed a Memorandum of Understanding respecting their cooperative development of the Chinese market for TCS Systems. Tirex President, John L. Threshie Jr. and R&D Director, Dr. François Lafortune recently visited Hong Kong and China to promote the TCS-1 technology. The purchase order is conditional only upon a final technical inspection to be conducted by Tirex and Well Express.

Mr. Threshie stated, "By taking this first step of purchasing a TCS-1, China is demonstrating its commitment to the development of their domestic tire recycling industry and to the support of their downstream industries as users of rubber crumb. Their selection of the Tirex technology also reflects their growing concern for their environment which is a very significant issue in such a populous country." Mr. Threshie added, "This commitment from Well Express is very important to our Company. Not only does it represent a tangible demonstration that we have a saleable product, it also provides us with enhanced credibility in the eyes of other customers and new opportunities with banks and investors as well as potential support under sovereign government and UN-sponsored programs."
